PS5: The problem with the internal battery is solved - except for your PS plus

At the beginning of the year, the theoretical problem occurred that the PS4 and PS5 are ticking time bombs. Because the internal CMOS battery can eventually be empty and then it was with the mentioned consoles so far so that no games are more playable. Sony wanted to take himself the problem and now it seems almost solved.

The PS5 CMOS battery is not a time bomb anymore

The YouTube Channel Hikikomori Media (via VGC ) continued to examine the problem with the CMOS battery specifically at PS5 and now found that it was largely resolved.

Also without battery it works : As the channel has found out, it is now possible to play PS4 and PS5 games on disc and digitally, even if something is wrong with the CMOS battery. Before fixing the Sony, the games would have been no longer playable if they have no internet connection and a missing battery.

An exception remains: Even if the biggest problems are fixed, a certain type of games are denied you if something should happen to the CMOS battery. You can still not start your PS plus games that you have received over the subscription.

What was the problem? Sony uses the CMOS battery to operate the internal clock of PlayStation consoles. When a game is started, then the internal time is checked with which the server is checked to determine if the game can ever be played.

In the case where the internal clock stops working, the time must be entered manually at each start of the game and compared. If then no server connection is possible, if, for example, Sony shuts off the appropriate servers at some point, then your games did not work anymore.

As our free author Chris Werian clarifies in a separate article, the failure of a CMOS battery is not the most common death of a console. Therefore, you should worry about other reasons than an empty or broken battery.

Have you ever happened to you or do you do not worry about the internal battery?
